elect.info publishes traceable US federal campaign-finance data. The right of response lets the verified subject of a page — a candidate or a committee — add their own statement next to the facts about them. We do not change the underlying data. These Terms of Response ("Terms") govern that feature.
Responses may be posted only by a person we have verified as authorized to speak for the subject of the page (for example, the candidate, or the committee's treasurer of record on FEC filings). Verification requires confirming control of an email address and a steward's review against public FEC filings. You may not claim a page you are not authorized to represent, or impersonate any person or entity.
A response is your own statement about a fact shown on your page or on a specific contribution you gave or received. Keep it about the record. You retain ownership of your words and grant elect.info a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display, and store them in connection with the relevant page.
Every response is reviewed before publication. We may decline to publish, request changes, redact, or later remove any response at our discretion — including for violations of these Terms. Publication is not guaranteed, and review is not an endorsement or verification of the truth of a statement. Responses are labeled as the subject's own words.
A response never alters, hides, or corrects FEC source data. It appears alongside the data as commentary. Requests to correct the underlying data are handled separately through our data-correction process and, where applicable, directly with the FEC.
You are solely responsible for your response and its accuracy. You represent that you are authorized to post it and that it does not violate these Terms or any law or third-party right. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless elect.info and its operators from claims arising out of content you submit.
Published responses are attributed to the verified subject and may display the responder's name and role. We do not publish your email address. We may display the date of publication and that the response was moderated.
You may request removal or correction of your own published response at any time by contacting us. We may also act on good-faith complaints from third parties, and we may suspend or revoke a verified claim if authorization is disputed or withdrawn.
Personal data you provide (email, name, verification evidence) is used to operate the claim and response feature and is handled under our Privacy Policy. Public pages present campaign-finance data at aggregate and entity level; individual-level personal detail is subject to separate access controls.
We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted here. The feature and these Terms are governed by the laws specified in our site Terms of Use. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
